Ronel Blanco of the Houston Astros threw the first no-hitter of the 2024 season on Monday night, striking out seven batters in a 10-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Blanco allowed just two base-runners in the sparkling outing, issuing a pair of walks to George Springer.
Ronel Blanco completes his no-hitter against the Blue Jays!
It was Houston’s sixth no-hitter thrown since the 2019 season. No other team has more than two in that span.
It is also the earliest no-hitter in a season ever (by calendar date). The previous record was April 4 by Hideo Nomo of the Red Sox in 2001.
The Astros, who entered the night 0-4, also became the fourth team since 1901 to have its first victory of the season be an official no-hitter, joining the 2001 Boston Red Sox, 1972 Chicago Cubs and 1940 Cleveland Guardians (then-Indians).
This is a developing story.
