Justin Simmons was the latest veteran safety to be cut in a move to save salary cap space, as the Denver Broncos released him on Thursday, according to NFL Media.
The 30-year-old Simmons is a two-time Pro Bowl selection, including last season, when he had three interceptions and 70 tackles across 15 games.
Releasing Simmons, who has 30 interceptions in eight NFL seasons, the most of any player over that time, will save the team $18.35 million against the cap.
Simmons is just one of several veteran safeties to hit the free agent market this offseason, joining Jordan Poyer, Jamal Adams, Kevin Byard, Quandre Diggs, Rayshawn Jenkins and Eddie Jackson.
