Cincinnati Reds hiring Terry Francona as manager, sources say

The Cincinnati Reds are hiring Terry Francona as their manager, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Thursday.

Francona will return to managing one year after stepping down from the Cleveland Guardians and will take over a young, talented Reds team.

Francona has a 23-year managerial career that began in Philadelphia, peaked with two World Series titles in Boston and concluded with an 11-season stay in Cleveland. He was named AL Manager of the Year three times with Cleveland.

He previously was an outfielder for 10 seasons in the major leagues before injuries forced him to retire as a player.

MLB.com first reported the Reds will hire Francona.
