The 2024 college football season kicked off with a bang on Saturday afternoon as unranked Georgia Tech stunned No. 10 Florida State, 24-21, at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Haynes King completed 11 of 16 passes for 146 yards while adding 54 yards on the ground, Jamal Haynes rushed for a game-high 75 yards and two touchdowns, and sophomore kicker Aidan Birr drilled a 44-yard field goal as time expired to lead the Yellow Jackets to a memorable victory in Week 0.
The Seminoles entered the contest as 10.5-point favorites, but Brent Key’s Georgia Tech team had an answer every time FSU put points on the board. With the victory, Key improved to 5-0 against ranked opponents as the Yellow Jackets’ head coach.
DJ Uiagalelei, who began his career at Clemson and played last season at Oregon State before transferring to Florida State this offseason, finished the game 193 yards through the air, while running back Roydell Williams led the Seminoles with 38 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
This marks Georgia Tech’s first win vs. an AP top 10 opponent since 2015, which also happened to be against Florida State.
