Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson dislocates shoulder in loss to Houston

Kansas center Hunter Dickinson suffered a dislocated right shoulder in Saturday’s blowout loss to Houston, according to coach Bill Self.

Dickinson suffered the injury battling for a rebound at the 11:08 mark of the second half and immediately left the floor and headed for the locker room clutching his right shoulder.

Self said after the game that Dickinson suffered a dislocated shoulder, but the team’s staff were able to pop it back in. He’ll get an MRI when the team returns to Lawrence.

“He will have an MRI to see what the diagnosis is and try to get a gameplan moving forward for him,” Self said.

Dickinson had 11 points and eight rebounds at the time of his exit.

But Dickinson’s injury wasn’t the only setback for the No. 14 Jayhawks lineup on Saturday.

Fellow Wooden Award finalist Kevin McCullar Jr., who entered the game with a left knee issue, did not play in the second half versus the Cougars after aggravating a bone bruise that kept him out of several games last month. He was scoreless in 15 minutes in the first half.

Self said after the game the team shouldn’t have played McCullar at all in Saturday’s game.

“Kevin, he hadn’t done anything since K-State much, and then, today, he felt better, thought he’d try,” Self said. “I wish we wouldn’t have played Kev. It’s a pretty level of concern when your two best players are questionable moving forward.”

Self added that it was too soon to know if Dickinson or McCullar would be available for the upcoming Big 12 Tournament.
