A man fatally shot two people at a law office in Las Vegas on Monday morning, then killed himself, the police said.
Officers responded to a report of an active shooter around 10 a.m. inside the law firm, located on the fifth floor of an office building in the Summerlin community in the city, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.
“This is a dynamic event,” the department said on social media early on Monday, adding that multiple police emergency vehicles were responding.
Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said there were two victims, a man and a woman, and that the shooter was a man.
“We believe he took his own life,” the sheriff told reporters at the scene.
Sheriff McMahill said he did not know the motive for the shooting and could not say what connection there was between the gunman and the victims or whether they worked at the firm, which he did not name. Their names were not released.
“This is an ongoing investigation,” the department said.
The sheriff said that the authorities were looking at the shooter’s vehicle as part of the investigation.
“There is no further threat to our community,” he added.
A spokeswoman for the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said her agency was assisting the Clark County Fire Department.
Footage from the local ABC station showed employees who were inside the six-story office building lingering across the street as officers investigated the scene.
The sheriff said that hundreds of people had been evacuated.
