El Tri needs a win over Ecuador on Sunday in order to advance to the tournament quarterfinals, while Ecuador advances with a win of its own or if the teams draw. 

It’s been a rough go for Mexico of late, as the team lost its second Copa América match to Group B winner Venezuela and is also without captain Edson Álvarez for the remainder of the tournament after Álvarez sustained a hamstring injury in Mexico’s 1-0 tournament-opening win against Jamaica.
