Paul George has agreed to sign a four-year, $212 million max contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to a report from ESPN on Monday.
George now joins a Philadelphia team headlined by 2022-23 league MVP Joel Embiid and 2023-24 Most Improved Player Tyrese Maxey.
George, 34, informed the Clippers of his intention to sign elsewhere on Sunday, according to a statement released by the team.
The Clippers traded for George in 2019 for a package that included Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and five first-round picks after signing Kawhi Leonard as a free agent. Leonard signed a three-year, $152.4 million contract extension with the Clippers in January and James Harden re-signed on Sunday, but LA was unable to strike a deal with George, who was reportedly seeking a max contract.
George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 74 appearances for the Clippers last season and was voted an All-Star. He was an All-Star in three out of the five seasons he was in LA.
