USC’s throwback threads lead Week 12 of college football uniforms

With bowl season and the inaugural 12-team college football playoff near, teams are stepping up their on-field looks in Week 12.

Coming off a 26-21 road loss in Week 10 to Washington and a open date last week, USC (4-5) is seeking a win against Big Ten foe Nebraska (5-4).

But this isn’t just any game for the Trojans. It marks the school’s homecoming weekend. In the game against Nebraska, USC will pay homage to its 1972 national championship team with a throwback alternate uniform.

One of the notable differences in the throwback threads, as opposed to USC’s primary uniform, is the three stripes on the shoulders where the jersey number usually is. The shoulder stripes were discontinued in 2002 with the uniform’s newest version.

Here are the best college football uniforms from Week 12.

With a projected bye in the new playoff format, No. 1-ranked Oregon continues to impress with its on-field looks. In the game against Wisconsin, the Ducks will combine their “Fly Era” jersey and “Warp Speed” bottoms. Oregon defeated Ohio State in the Fly Era uniform and beat Michigan in the Warp Speed threads.

Boise State remained in the College Football Playoff field projection Tuesday. Riding a seven-game winning streak and looking to add an eighth against San José State, the Broncos will wear a white-on-orange combo with a throwback helmet.

Georgia State is looking to end its six-game losing streak when it faces Arkansas State. With hope that the look will catapult the Panthers into the win column, the team will wear an all-black uniform that features the location of its campus, Atlanta, which is written on the chest of the jersey.

North Carolina is riding a two-game win streak with victories over Florida State and Virginia. Looking to notch a third consecutive triumph when it faces Wake Forest, the Tar Heels will wear their blue-out threads.

Utah is keeping it clean this week, going all-white against Colorado.
