WrestleMania 40 Night 1: Live results and analysis

PHILADELPHIA — For the first time in 11 years, The Rock returns for scheduled in-ring action, a match that will headline Night 1 of WrestleMania 40 on Saturday in Philadelphia when he teams up with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins (7 p.m. ET, Peacock). That’s all a prelude to Sunday’s main event, when Rhodes looks to “finish the story” and end Reigns’ 1,300-plus-day reign as WWE universal undisputed champion.

If Rhodes and Rollins win Saturday, the Bloodline is banned from the Reigns-Rhodes match Sunday. If Rock and Roman win Saturday, Sunday’s match will be under “Bloodline Rules,” meaning anything goes.

The Bloodline won’t just be featured in the main event. Jimmy Uso and twin brother “Main Event” Jey Uso will look to settle the score in a grudge match.

Saturday night also features a number of other title fights. WWE’s top two female stars will vie for the women’s world championship when Rhea Ripley defends against Becky Lynch. The Intercontinental championship will be on the line as Gunther’s historic reign (now at 660 days and counting) will be at risk when he faces Sami Zayn.

A “Six-Pack Ladder Match” for the undisputed WWE tag team championships features The Judgment Day (champions Finn Balor & Damian Priest) vs. DIY (Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) vs. Awesome Truth (Miz and R-Truth) vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs. A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory & Grayson Waller) vs. New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate).

The last scheduled matches for Saturday include a tag team match between Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee vs. Dominik Mysterio & Santos Escobar, and Jade Cargill’s WrestleMania debut, with Cargill teaming with Bianca Belair and Naomi vs. Damage CTRL.

Follow along as Mike Coppinger, Marc Raimondi and Greg Wyshynski recap and discuss all the action as it happens in Philadelphia.
