WrestleMania 40 Night 2: Live results and analysis

PHILADELPHIA — The buzz around the city this week — from Uber drivers to front-desk clerks to diners at Reading Terminal Market — has been whether or not Cody Rhodes will finish his story.

WWE and Rhodes himself have built this storyline for the last two years, ever since Rhodes returned to WWE from AEW as the prodigal son. Rhodes’ father Dusty, a WWE Hall of Famer and one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, never won WWE’s top prize. Rhodes vowed to do just that, in honor of his legendary father.

Last year, Rhodes was turned back by Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles. He’s right back against Reigns on Sunday night here at Lincoln Financial Field with the undisputed WWE Universal title on the line again. And the deck has been stacked against him.

The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of WrestleMania Saturday here, meaning Sunday night’s main event will be under Bloodline rules. In other words, anything goes, specifically interference from Reigns’ cousins Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa, as well as likely The Rock himself.

Rollins will also return Sunday, defending his WWE World Heavyweight championship against Drew McIntyre. He suffered a storyline leg injury Saturday in the main event against Reigns and The Rock, which will surely come into play Sunday.

Also on the card, Iyo Sky puts her WWE women’s championship on the line against former friend and Damage CTRL stablemate Bayley, while social media superstar Logan Paul defends his WWE United States title in a three-way match against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. Plus, LA Knight faces AJ Styles in a grudge match, while Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits face off against Karrion Kross and the Authors of Pain in a six-man tag match.
